An exciting opportunity has arisen for 5 Sessional Family Time supervisors to join Askham Children’s Contact Service. Askham is an Enhanced Accredited Service providing children and their families with the opportunity to spend quality time together in a safe and secure environment, whilst decisions are made through the court regarding future living arrangements.  


You will work as part of a small team and will supervise family time sessions in the centre, online and in the local community, which may include extended periods of physical activity. You will have experience of working with children and families with a good understanding of the issues that arise when families are not living together. 


Your role will involve meeting and greeting children and family members, assessing their suitability for sessions, observing interactions and providing support if required.  


You will have the ability to make observations and write and submit these in time-bound, high-quality reports that may be used in court.   


A good knowledge of safeguarding children and child protection, with an understanding of key risk factors, including the role of Children’s Services, is essential. 


You should have direct experience of anticipating, diffusing, and managing difficult and challenging situations in a professional manner whilst maintaining clear boundaries and objectivity when interacting with families. 


You will be willing to work a flexible schedule that may include different start and finish times. Our service is open Monday to Saturday, with session times between 10am-12pm, 1-3pm and 4-6pm on weekdays and 10am-12pm and 2-4pm on Saturdays. We also run sessions outside of these times. We are looking for people with flexibility to cover the aforementioned sessions over a period of 2-3 days per week or more.

  • You will have a recognized qualification in childcare/ education/ social care or youth work and/ or experience of working with children and young people.
