Our Regulatory Compliance Apprenticeship is a 24-month programme, designed to develop technical, enforcement, organisational and communication skills and apply your ‘can-do’ attitude whilst working towards a Level 4 Regulatory Compliance qualification.
The Job - Working in the Markets and Street Trading Team you will:
- Assist managers and officers with their statutory duties and team projects which will include processing licensing applications, carrying out monitoring and compliance inspections, investigating complaints and the collation and presentation of evidence and business records.
- To build up experience and knowledge of Markets and Street Trading and other Environmental Health and Regulatory Services legislation.
- Help define, document and carry out small projects or sub-projects within the team, actively participating in all phases.
- Build on your existing communication skills, gain invaluable experience and build your self-confidence through your day-to-day workplace activities.
- Maintain and update records and support teams with data entry and numerical data.
- Deliver a range of administrative functions such as diary management, photocopying, scanning, filing and responding to requests for information via email, letter and telephone calls.
Training and Development – Within your role you will:
- Complete a Regulatory Compliance Level 4 qualification funded by the Council. This will involve attendance at a college (which may include virtual workshops) and/or completing tasks in the workplace and working from home (depending on specific course requirements).
- Join a personal and professional development programme that will involve a series of varied development activities and events throughout your time with the Council.

After you have successfully completed your Apprenticeship, you will have gained valuable workplace experience and attained a professional qualification which will improve your chances of finding work either within the Council or with another employer or help you move on to a higher-level apprenticeship elsewhere.
You will have networked across the Council and be aware of the internal job market during your time with us and we will provide support on your approach to the wider job market as part of your development programme.
To apply for this Apprenticeship, you must:
- Have lived in the UK for the past 3 years (as part of the funding requirement).
- English and maths qualifications must be completed in line with the apprenticeship funding rules.
- Not currently be qualified as a Regulatory Compliance Officer at level 4 or above.
- Currently not undertaking any other formal form of study (e.g. college or university course)
