About the role

 

The Traffic Prosecutions Team is responsible for the preparation of prosecution files for court. In safety camera cases, the team decide upon the charges, produce the relevant evidence, prepare the file, list for court and send out the postal requisition.
 

In officer cases, the team check the evidence, complete the charges, prepare the file, list for court and send out the postal requisition.
 

As a SJU Clerk you will work within our Prosecution Team and carry out a wide range of clerical functions involved in the enforcement and prosecution of offences that occur on the strategic road network. Your duties will involve a range of tasks required to process cases through the fixed penalty and criminal justice systems with a view to improving road safety and tackling poor driving. You will use a wide variety of police systems, liaise with the public and develop a good understanding of the relevant legislation and procedures involved in road traffic matters.

 

Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:

 

1. Deal with correspondence and process telephone calls in a professional and timely manner.

2. Liaise with and provide guidance to internal and external individuals, departments, agencies and companies.

3. Accurately input and update information onto various databases within the unit.

4. Interrogate the different databases to deal with queries.

5. To generate standard and non standard documents.

 

Prosecutions

  • Highlight cases where suspected criminal or prevarication offences exist.
  • Magistrates Input - Interrogate and update RMS to raise prosecution occurrence to commence prosecution procedures including the preparation of summons Prepare Production Orders requesting her Majesty’s’ Prisons to produce prisoners for court hearing.

Essential Qualifications

 

Educated to QCF Level 2 (3-5 passes) OR work experience deemed to have brought the postholder to a comparable level.

Essential Experience

 

Experience of working in a busy administrative environment, undertaking complex administrative tasks to a high standard.
