ACRO
ACRO Criminal Records Office is a national police unit; hosted by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary and based near Fareham.
We’re very much part of the police family with our purpose being ‘safer communities in the UK and across the world’.
At ACRO you will have opportunities to work on a range of services and products that support police forces both in the UK and overseas in helping to protect people. This also involves working closely with partner agencies such as the National Crime Agency and the Home Office.
Some of our staff have transferred to ACRO having worked in units across Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, while others come here to gain valuable knowledge and experience at the start of a career in policing.
We also welcome recruits from private and charitable sectors who bring with them a wide range of experience, as well as recruits with language skills.
Whatever your background or aspirations, ACRO offers the same benefits package as the constabulary as well as:
- the chance to work at national and international levels of policing
- training and structured professional development reviews
- opportunities to progress laterally or into supervisory or management roles
Every role and every member of staff at ACRO contributes towards our safeguarding purpose. Key roles include:
- Criminal records administrators deliver a core service conducting the bulk of checks on UK criminal databases
- Senior criminal records administrators’ roles vary from resolving applicants’ queries about information being disclosed to updating databases with conviction information
- Quality controllers are responsible for the final checks on the information we disclose to members of the public through our certificates and subject access.
- Team leaders / heads of section are the first line managers for teams of administrators, senior administrators and quality controllers and also undertake some or all of the above plus some projects
