Applications are invited from suitably qualified Sergeants/ Detective Sergeants who are ready to take the next step in their policing career for promotion to Inspector/ Detective Inspector. The rank of inspector is critical for the delivery of operational policing, providing the leadership and direction to deliver high quality policing to our communities across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Job Purpose

As an Inspector you are responsible for leading and motivating teams within your district, department or business area. Through your authentic and visible leadership you will focus your team on delivering performance through excellent customer service, tackling crime and harm and protecting vulnerable people.


You will maintain the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, working with colleagues and partners to help create and contribute to engaged, confident and resilient communities.


As an enthusiastic and passionate public servant, you will be committed to enhancing the wellbeing and resilience of your team to deliver sustainable performance improvements and quality outcomes for the public.


Essential Qualifications

  • Must be a serving police officer in a Home Office force, or a pervious Home Office Force police officer applying as a re-joiner at a higher rank.


  • Must have a valid OSPRE part 1 and 2 qualification or if qualifications were gained after 2014 hold a valid NPPF step 2 legal exam pass at the date of the promotion board. (NPPF passes have a validity of 5 years only)
