About Us:
THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF KAKOLI’S PASSION AND DRIVE
Children’s Services in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. Where inspirational people like Kakoli are dedicated to encouraging everyone they work with to be the very best they can be.
Ever since she was a child, Kakoli has believed that children are the ones who’ll change the world for the better. Who’ll create the future we all wish for. And she always knew her calling was to get on the front line and help those who might not be as fortunate as herself.
Driven and passionate about making a difference, she first joined Westminster as a Social Work Assistant, and her managers immediately saw she had huge potential, so they encouraged her to apply to study for a degree in social work. She passed with flying colours, and over the next fourteen years worked as a frontline Social Worker, a Senior Social Worker, a Deputy Service Manager and is now one of our Service Managers.
Kakoli’s vision is as clear now as it was all those years ago – to encourage and support children, and help them grow in safe, vibrant communities. Her achievements are many, but she’s most proud of the fact that these days Westminster doesn’t ‘do things for families’ but ‘does things with families’. And she believes this huge but subtle difference to the way we work has allowed thousands of children in Westminster to fulfil their potential and live their dreams.
The Role:
As Centre Manager of the vibrant Tresham Centre for Children and Young People with Disabilities you can make your own powerful contribution to Westminster’s success. Working with children and their families as you set up and manage a wide range of activities including holiday and weekend play schemes, family fun days and trips out, you’ll take the lead on parenting groups and workshops, and help develop our early intervention offer. Managing and supervising our team leaders, and ensuring every member of staff at the centre gives the best possible care to the children and families we support, we’ll also expect you to link with the Bi-Borough Inclusion Officer to enhance the work we do.
Committed to ensuring contract services meet quality assurance expectations, and all the relevant requirements such as Health & Safety, Ofsted regulations and CQC are adhered to, you’ll also manage day-to-day budgeting, including petty cash and banking. Working with our Management Group to provide a coordinated and seamless service, supporting a user’s group, and responding to any needs that arise, as an inspirational leader you’ll also provide motivating advice, guidance, mentoring and training to the Centre’s dedicated staff.
The Tresham Centre is an amazing place where children can feel safe, supported and welcomed, and your enthusiasm and dedication will see it grow and flourish. And as a strong advocate for all the children and families you work with, you’ll be committed to ensuring they’re consulted about the services we offer, both at the centre and elsewhere in our borough. We’ll also expect you to provide the necessary facilities to enable a smooth transition for children into Adult Services, and take the lead on early intervention groups for families, including drop-ins and parenting workshops.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information.
About You:
To be a success in this vital role you’ll have well developed experience of supervising, monitoring and setting targets for contract, sessional or frontline staff, and be an inspirational trainer, coach and mentor. Capable of managing budgets, resources and operational planning to deliver a service of the very highest quality, you should also be happy to work collaboratively with a wide range of professionals, agencies and partner organisations as you focus on supporting the children and families we work with.
It goes without saying that you’ll have plenty of experience of involving parents, carers and children with additional needs and disabilities in planning activities and developing services – this could have been gained in settings such as childcare, early years, family support or day care services. Committed to building positive relationships with everyone you work with, you should also be capable of designing, setting up and delivering a range of parenting workshops, groups and activities to support families.
A highly motivating leader and people manager with the skills to provide professional guidance, support and feedback to our staff and volunteers, your strong interpersonal and communication skills will see you working with empathy, patience and a high degree of professionalism. Flexible and ready to adapt to changing demands and priorities in a dynamic environment, we’ll also look for a Level 3 qualification or equivalent practical experience in childcare, youth work or social care, while a management qualification and additional training relating to children with disabilities or special educational needs would be desirable.
