About Us:
THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF INDEPENDENT LIVES
Adult Social Care in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where our passionate, caring and committed professionals do brilliant work every day.
Mrs D was frail and unwell. Her son was her main carer, but he wasn’t coping. We stepped in to help, but they were hostile to outside agencies. They’d always lived together and were terrified they’d be split up. Our social worker did a great job persuading Mrs D to get hospital treatment and a temporary stay in a care home. In an epic effort throughout COVID, she gained the son’s trust and sorted all the repairs, carers and nurses needed so that Mrs D could come home to live with her son. We also got Mr D regular respite and a personal budget awarded in recognition of him as her carer. After all, there’s nothing more important than living the life you want.
The Role:
As a Team Manager, Learning Disabilities and Autism Services, you can make your own powerful contribution to some of Westminster’s most vulnerable adults. Leading the daily and strategic operations of our well-respected Learning Disability and Autism Service, you will guide the activities of a dynamic group of experienced and motivated Social Workers, seeing to it that our uncompromising standards are being maintained.
On a day-to-day basis, this will involve ensuring we are offering a person-centred service, that is consistently compliant with the relevant legislation and best practice. Ensuring adults with autism and learning difficulties are exercising their choice within the health mix of statutory and non-statutory services, you will encourage the team to deliver a bespoke service that is uniquely tailored to every individual.
Working under the guidance of the Head of Service, you will find plenty of support to identify where we could be doing things better, and implement the strategic plans and improvement activities that you believe will elevate our capabilities. Furthermore, you will guide the successful implementation of various interesting initiatives that are already underway. For example, we are currently working on an exciting pipeline of work that is focused on developing preventative and community-based services for residents. You will champion these concepts, and see to it that they have the operational support they need to come to fruition.
You will also implement the ‘Changing Lives’ strategy, which is a bi-borough plan for supporting those with learning disabilities and autism. So there really is plenty to sink your teeth into!
We reserve the right to extend or close this vacancy early without warning subject to the volume of suitable applicants, so if you have plenty of ideas on how we can go even further in our mission to support adults with learning disabilities and autism, please do apply as soon as possible.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information.
About You:
This is a unique chance to join a high-performing adult social care service, that is populated by a team who are passionate about the impact they have on countless lives. We benefit from a stable workforce without needing to rely on agency staff, so you will have the support you need to build on your ideas from day one.
Your success in every programme of work will be dependent on your ability to build relationships with residents and families utilising our services, plus a wide variety of organisations who are helping us elevate the life outcomes of those with learning disabilities and autism. We already benefit from exceptional collaborations with statutory bodies and local third sector organisations, so you will nurture these partnerships, and identify where new relationships could be explored. As such, you will have exceptional communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
As a qualified and registered Social Worker, you will hold a Best Interest Assessor qualification, or you will be willing to undergo the relevant training if you do not already have this. With an expert knowledge of the relevant legislation, guidance and policies, you will have experience in managing care and support planning in a statutory setting. As such, you will be well-versed in safeguarding, and you will be committed to upholding ethical standards and professional boundaries while always respecting the dignity of service users.
With good leadership skills, we will expect you to be capable of managing resources in order to deliver a seamless service. Crucially, you will bring a solution-focused approach to every challenge, and you will have the ability to drive transformational change and deliver projects on time and to the agreed standards.
