About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF KUDZY'S TRAVELS

Environmental Health at Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where passionate and expert professionals go above and beyond for their colleagues every day.

Kudzy knows the streets of Westminster like the back of her hand. Her office can be anywhere. Market stalls, spas, carnivals, hotels, even backstage at an Adele concert. She’s travelled more than most have in a lifetime without leaving Westminster. She’s an Environmental Health Officer like no other. But, for her, seeing the difference her work makes to communities is the real highlight. For some, it’s financial lifelines, for others it’s the open sign on the restaurant they’ve always dreamed of. For Kudzy, it’s the smiles on her customers’ faces.

The Role:

As a Team Leader in our Environmental Sciences Team, you can make your own powerful contribution by supporting our Climate Emergency agenda, and tackling initiatives relating to air quality, noise climate and contaminated land. And in doing so, you will enhance the physical and emotional wellbeing of everyone who lives in and visits the city.

With an unwavering focus on delivering the level of service that our communities expect and deserve, you will coordinate a number of high profile and complex cases, seeing to it that Westminster’s residents are able to enjoy a great quality of life.

What this will entail could vary immensely on a day-to-day basis. For example, you might work with developers and contractors to minimise the impact their construction projects are having on residents and businesses, advising them on their responsibilities and attending site visits to conduct noise monitoring and emission audits. Alternatively, you might be asked to attend public events and exhibitions where you’ll share knowledge about the importance of environmental protection and control.

You will also share your expertise with Councillors and other teams across the Council, helping define future planning projects and policy development. Whether guiding them on new pieces of legislation and regulations that will have an impact on how we are delivering on our statutory functions or conducting detailed assessments such as Site Environmental Management Plans, your reach will be felt across numerous teams and departments.

Passionate about implementing change projects wherever you see scope for improvement, you will both represent the service on existing partnerships, and develop new ones that could lead to better environmental outcomes for Westminster’s communities. So while this is a 6-month interim role, there will be great scope to tackle interesting initiatives from day one, and make a valuable network of contacts.

If you would enjoy the experience of leading a high-profile team in London’s most iconic neighbourhood, please do apply as soon as possible.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

This is an exciting opportunity to drive improvements across our service, so we are looking for a dynamic individual with experience of leading a team of Officers in a complex policy and service environment. As such, you will be capable of managing resources, budgets, business planning and performance. You will also know how to translate strategic objectives into high-quality operational plans.

Crucially, you will develop the skills of the team wherever possible, mentoring colleagues and supervising their daily work, so we are looking for an inspirational leader who has a background in building partnerships with communities, public agencies and statutory bodies.

With the resilience to manage challenging clients, you will have exceptional communication, influencing and organisational skills, and you will enjoy driving change management programmes. It also goes without saying that you will be aware of the challenges faced by local government, and you will be committed to ensuring statutory requirements in relation to environmental protection and control are being met.
