We also take great pleasure in hosting much simpler ceremonies at our iconic Old Marylebone Town Hall. And Thelma, a senior Usher, draws on her background on her various previous roles in administration an customer service not to forget being a, mother her flair for learning a new language bring just the right level of flawless service and empathy to each event.
So when a bride mislaid her bouquet, Thelma stepped up to save the day. She created a beautiful arrangement from flowers displayed in the Town Hall. Meanwhile, Thelma calmed the distraught bride and her mother and ensured everything stayed on schedule.
It’s just one of the many ways Thelma and her team think on their feet and work together to make sure everyone’s special day runs smoothly.
The Role:
As an Usher at Old Marylebone Town Hall and other Westminster venues, you can make your own powerful contribution to the lives of residents and the futures they build together. Through supporting weddings, civil partnerships and citizenship ceremonies, you’ll be sharing some of the most important days of people’s lives and ensuring everything runs smoothly for them. You can expect to be involved in everything from greeting people and directing them around the building to serving refreshments, and liaising with suppliers such as photographers, musicians and florists. You will also show potential customers around our venues, allowing them to view the rooms and facilities. It’s a joyful environment but also a busy one that will keep you on your toes. No two days and no two ceremonies are the same.

About You:
We’re looking for helpful, outgoing people who enjoy working with the public and meeting people from different nationalities and cultures. You’re likely to have experience of delivering world-class customer service as part of a team in a busy and fast-paced environment such as an airline or large hotel. The role will also have a couple of weeks where you will be carrying out administrative duties, so there will be a nice balance between ushering and administration. You will be confident and calm under pressure, you’ll also be efficient and well organised with plenty of initiative. Your impeccable personal presentation will be matched by plenty of stamina (including the ability to stand for long periods of time) and strong communication skills, ideally including knowledge of one or more languages in addition to English. Given the nature of the job, you must be able to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays.
