About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF HAYLEA’S UNBEATABLE SPIRIT

Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. Where people use their optimism and talent to achieve more than anyone thought possible.

Nobody personifies this more than Haylea Navarro. Born with cerebral palsy and paralysed down one side since birth, Haylea has been gleefully proving people wrong ever since. Now a project officer, she brings faster broadband connectivity to Westminster businesses, boosting the economy for all. Throw in her gong at the 2020 London Apprenticeship Awards, and it’s clear for all to see just what can happen when you never give in.

Please view the extraordinary story of Haylea’s Unbeatable Spirit here.

The Role:

As Senior Internal Communications Officer, you can make your own powerful contribution to sharing our extraordinary stories. You’ll help to inspire colleagues across Westminster City Council to go the extra mile in their own work, as well as keeping them informed about key priorities and exciting developments. Everyone in our friendly Internal Comms team sees our role as influencing culture, wellbeing and staff satisfaction across the Council. All of which ultimately have a positive impact on the services the Council provides, and the outcomes we deliver together for local communities.

You’ll be a key member of a supportive, open-minded, honest and transparent team which takes a positive, solution-oriented approach to internal communications. We take great care to make sure our dynamic campaigns and comms engage and interest our audience. While we’re certainly strategic in our thinking, we also have fun – many of our campaigns help to improve staff satisfaction, including our own! Taking a collaborative approach, we love to celebrate what our colleagues across the Council do. And you can be sure you’ll achieve plenty to celebrate in your role, too.

There may never have been a more exciting time to join us. We’re refreshing our values and purpose – which means you’ll support campaigns that compliment strategic projects which aim to make us a more equitable and inclusive Council. The Internal Comms team is trusted across the Council, so our advice is welcomed with open ears. What’s more, as a learning organisation, we create an environment where everyone feels they can thrive. That means flexible work, at home and in the office, plus great opportunities for learning and development. Crucially, it also means you’ll enjoy creative freedom to unleash your skills across storytelling, event planning, designing marketing materials and gathering video content – all in the service of innovative campaigns with real impact. You’ll also find plenty of scope to develop your stakeholder management skills, as you work closely with people at all levels, across the organisation.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

While experience of communications – especially internal comms – will certainly be an advantage, we recognise that you could bring transferrable skills and knowledge from other industries, which may also make you a great fit for this role. We’re looking for excellent communication skills, in person, in writing and digitally. These skills will help you build great relationships, source stories, provide trusted advice, and develop ideas to improve the work we all do in Internal Communications. You’ll also need to be a highly organised individual with skills that equip you to develop, manage and deliver comms projects.
