About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM

Innovation and Change in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. Where people use their vision and commitment to open doors for the next generations.

Nothing beats the feeling of helping someone find their passion. At Westminster City Council, our City Lions team helps young local people engage with culture, creativity and dreams. When they came across a lonely, isolated 16-year-old who called himself a failure, they knew what to do. They worked 1-2-1 to find the thing this boy really loved. YouTube, it turned out. But it’s impossible to turn that into a career, right? Wrong. A week later, he was enrolled on the British Film Institute film-making programme. It was the ultimate light-bulb moment. And it turned him into what he is today – a budding Spielberg with a world of opportunity at his feet.

The Role:

As a Senior Community Development Officer, you can make your own powerful contribution to improving the lives of local residents. From public space improvements to the Queen’s Park  to tackling anti-social behaviour, we’re working in partnership with local communities to address long-standing social-economic and health challenges.

This is an opportunity to be out and about in the local community, tapping into networks and building relationships. You will encourage local people, local businesses and other stakeholders – such as health, education and policing – to engage in the design and development of community projects. It’s up to you to ensure everyone’s voice is heard and that the local community is kept informed on progress.  Along the way you’ll meet some inspiring people and encounter some amazing initiatives. Although often working independently, you will be supported by our wider Community Engagement team.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

You’re likely to have a track-record in a community-facing role where you will have built experience of managing and monitoring projects, as well as coordinating events and community feedback.  An exceptional communicator, you’ll be capable of relaying information to a wide variety of audiences, both in person and by using office IT such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel to produce reports and presentations.  A passion for tackling everyday inequalities and supporting communities is vital. Given the nature of the post, you should be ready to work some evenings and weekends.
