About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF THE POWER OF EMPOWERMENT

Environmental Health at Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where passionate and expert professionals go above and beyond for their communities every day.

Natasha started her career in the NHS. She came to Westminster to do more for vulnerable people. When a family in her community reached out to her after their heating was cut off, Natasha took their situation seriously. Living in terrible conditions, and reaching desperation, they had nowhere else to turn. Natasha stepped in, holding the landlord to account and getting them to improve conditions for the family. These are the moments that make her the proudest. Now, she uses her expertise and experience to empower others.

The Role:

As a Licencing Support Officer, you too can make a powerful contribution. We are introducing a new licencing scheme with the aim to ensure that every resident, business and visitor of Westminster will thrive in a clean, safe, and quiet city.

You will be the first point of contact for ensuring that properties are brought under licencing schemes. This helps the council to target rogue landlords and unsafe housing. You will communicate effectively, via email and phone, with internal and external stakeholders. This will include advising potential applicants on the application process and signposting to relevant contacts.

Under supervision, you will validate and process applications for licences and registrations issued by the Council. Additionally, you will assist the Senior Licencing Officer with administering the consultation process which involves collation of information, use of systems and corresponding with relevant agencies. You will liaise with environmental health officers, arranging inspections of licensable properties. As well as learning from senior staff, we would like you to guide junior staff, sharing your expertise and facilitating their development.

You will establish and maintain an effective database and manage documents, monitoring to ensure accuracy. With the goal of enhancing service delivery, you’ll contribute to developing and improving standard operating procedures.

As part of our team, you will be on hand to provide technical and administrative support. You will understand and demonstrate the Council’s values and behaviours, working well alongside colleagues to a build a sustainable, highly effective organisation. We want to secure our reputation as a Council that delivers great value for its residents. To help us achieve that, you will be excellent at managing and prioritising your workload to meet deadlines, with a mind to maximising service quality and continuity. This is the perfect role if you want a structured, people-focused role and the opportunity to develop your expertise in the private housing sector.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

The right candidate will have experience of working in an administration or customer service environment. You will have dealt with enquires and communicated with the public before. To this end, you have both good written and oral communication skills. It would be beneficial for you to have knowledge of private sector housing licensing regimes, but this is not essential.

Additionally, you have experience in the use of databases, including the inputting of information. You understand the importance of confidentiality in your record keeping. This is complemented by excellent computer skills and a familiarity with common Microsoft Windows applications and workflow type databases. You have excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload to meet tight deadlines. Plus, you have a self-motivated, flexible and professional outlook, and are happy working in a team. No specific qualifications are necessary to apply.
