About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF INDEPENDENT LIVES

Adult Social Care in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where our passionate, caring and committed professionals do brilliant work every day.

Mrs. D was frail and unwell. Her son was her main carer, but he wasn’t coping. We stepped in to help, but they were hostile to outside agencies. They’d always lived together and were terrified they’d be split up. Our social worker did a great job persuading Mrs. D to get hospital treatment and a temporary stay in a care home. In an epic effort throughout COVID, she gained the son’s trust and sorted all the repairs, carers and nurses needed so that Mrs. D could come home to live with her son. We also got Mr. D regular short-breaks and a personal budget awarded in recognition of him as her carer. After all, there’s nothing more important than living the life you want.

The Role:

As Service Manager, you can make your own powerful contribution to a Learning Disability and Autism Service that always strives to go the extra mile by taking a responsive, accessible and values-based approach. You’ll manage a high-performing service with unique characteristics – from its strong operations and clarity of purpose to a highly skilled and deeply motivated workforce that features no agency staff.

Our work is driven by the disability and autism plan Changing Lives. And changing lives is exactly what we seek to do. The service has a great relationship with its statutory partners and local third sector organisations. Everyone here is committed to co-production with residents and families. And there’s an exciting pipeline of innovative work in developing preventative and community-based services.

You will make an impact on everything from strategy to operational management, across a portfolio of services. We’ll look to you to manage increasing need and complexity within a budgetary context that is as challenging as you might expect in the current national climate. With considerable autonomy and discretion to lead as you see fit, you’ll enjoy the freedom to focus on optimum delivery from a robust platform.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

A qualified social worker or from one of the regulated professions – e.g. nursing, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy etc. – you will have a proven track record in operational delivery. Ideally you are a Best Interest Assessor (or are willing to undertake the training on appointment). You’ll bring to the role a demonstrable ability to lead and manage social care teams to deliver best practice, driven by robust policies aligned to legislation. A values-led leader, you have excellent relationship building skills and experience of implementing large-scale change with lasting, positive impact on outcomes.

The Council is committed to achieving diverse shortlists to support our desire to increase the number of staff from underrepresented groups in our workforce. We especially encourage applications from a global majority background and, while the role is open to all applicants,  we will utilise the positive action provisions of the Equality Act 2010 to appoint a candidate from a global majority background where there is a choice between two candidates of equal merit. If you are from a Global Majority background you can self-declare this to the hiring manager as part of our positive action commitments.
