Oxfordshire County Council is looking for a Senior Officer (Engineer) to work within the Highway Schemes Team, which is an integral part of Central Programme Development.

We are responsible across the County for the implementation of the following tasks:

Carriageway surfacing, footway works including kerbing, drainage works, through identification, development, design, and delivery of the annual Programme including, but not limited to:

• Surfacing, Inlay/overlay & patching.
• Footways including Surfacing, reconstruction, kerbing & footway surface treatment.
• Drainage – including investigation & design.

Provide technical advice to others within the organisation as required.

Investigating customer enquiries and complaints relating to all aspects of highway schemes.

About the role and you

The post holder will support the Team Leader in the delivery of highway schemes across the County.

We are looking for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic professional with proven experience of the technical elements and legislation around the implementation of a variety of highway maintenance schemes. You will be responsible for the design and project management of the schemes from inception to completion and will have a high attention to detail.

There will also be an expectation for you to take on the investigation of enquires and complaints in relation to highway schemes prior to, during & post construction.

You will be adept at positively representing the County Council, whether that be in person, or through written correspondence. As well as dealing with members of the public the role has contact with all levels of the political structure, from County Councillors to Parish Councils where you will need to be diplomatic and politically aware and be sympathetic to their requests.

You will be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision whilst working as part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the highway network.

You will need to be willing to learn new skills and be a team player that contributes to building a positive and engaged working environment.

The designated work location will be in County Hall, Oxford, although much of the work is anticipated to be able to be carried out whilst agile working, (i.e. other offices in Oxfordshire or from home). You will be regularly required to carry out site visits to inspect the highway or provide client supervision of construction works.
