About Us:

Play your part in helping us be the best local authority for our residents.

Here at the Royal Borough, we remain committed to putting residents first. In simple terms we want to ensure we deliver quality services to every resident and that the decisions we take factor-in the views and needs of stakeholders and local people more generally. The Governance Team is central to ensuring this happens and, in particular, ensuring open and transparent governance arrangements.

The Role:

With significant responsibilities from the outset, you will support the Council’s democratic governance system by helping Councillors from all parties and senior managers deliver on Council Plan objectives. You will need to demonstrate impartial professionalism as you embark on your induction programme and start to take ownership of an area of the Team’s responsibilities. With plenty of guidance from senior team members, you will support one or more Council-side committees and executive-side forums. Learning while you work, we will expect you to pursue the ADSO (Association of Democratic Services Officers) Certificate in Democratic Services over a period of c.18-months, and we will ensure that you have mentoring and time off to complete this. You will also have the chance to contribute to the modernisation of our service through the application of new IT measures for initiatives such as webcasting, agenda preparation, report retention and availability.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

If you’re interested in local democracy, there is no better place for you to develop your skills if you want to try innovative approaches to solving complex challenges. You will thrive here if you are a proactive individual who enjoys exploring new avenues and can adapt to change quickly. With at least two A-levels at Grade C or above, or equivalent, with some administrative experience, or with a degree-level qualification or experience of working as a Business Apprentice, you will have a keen interest in the role of local councillors, and you will enjoy taking on learning opportunities. With good research skills and verbal and written communication skills, you will enjoy building relationships with colleagues and customers alike. Embracing a hybrid working model, you will be willing to occasionally work in the evenings too.

Join us in this fascinating challenge, working for a high-performing public authority and putting your career on an exciting trajectory.
