About Us:

Provide a high quality and impartial inspection service across our borough

At the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people and businesses at the heart of everything we do, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective, and efficient. Committed to acting with openness, honesty, compassion, and humility, we aim to listen and understand in a way that is respectful, encourages involvement and meets the needs of all our communities.

The Role:

When you join us in this important role you’ll act as an impartial inspector, travelling to different sites in our borough and using all your technical knowledge as you interact with contractors, residents, and other stakeholders. Focused on making sure that the work you inspect is carried out is fully compliant, you’ll also ensure the correct materials are used and the workmanship is of the highest quality.

Reviewing contract documentation including drawings, specifications, and conditions, you’ll advise on the practical implications of implementing designs, and pinpoint any areas where you think improvements can be made. Identifying and observing any specialist testing that may be required, you’ll keep comprehensive and electronic records of on-site conditions and progress and produce a weekly written report.

You’ll have a range of additional responsibilities – these include liaising with residents to address any areas of dissatisfaction, carrying out inspections to record any defects, and signing off completed work. We’ll also expect you to ensure that the highest standards of probity are maintained through compliance with Financial Standing Orders, and any discrepancies are reported to the appropriate manager.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

With a qualification (or equivalent experience) in a mechanical or electrical trade, you’ll be a collaborative and positive team player, and be capable of communicating and negotiating with your colleagues and customers about their work. Always ready to take the initiative while thinking about the best way to achieve the tasks you’ve been set, you’ll have a good understanding of relevant policies, procedures, and regulations, and keep up-to-speed with changes to processes, tools, knowledge, and technology.

We’ll expect you to be polite and approachable – with this in mind you’ll be ready to take responsibility for resolving enquires, and deal fairly with customers while considering their needs. You should have experience of inspecting construction work for compliance with contract documentation, regulations and good practice, and well-developed knowledge of construction technology. It’s important that you possess an understanding of the terms contained within the standard forms of building contracts, and of the appropriate regulations relating to health and safety and equality and diversity issues. You should also be skilled in the use of IT including the MS Office suite of software, have the ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications, and be capable of producing clear and concise written reports.

Join us, and you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays. And as a key member of our team, you’ll also have plenty of opportunities for development and progression within our organisation. We’re committed to promoting equality and respecting diversity, and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
