Technical Officers support the Council’s Principal Officers in carrying out various functions and will be expected to own the discipline that they are responsible for. In many cases the function will be delivered across a variety of teams and the successful candidate will be expected to take an overview across the various services to ensure that their function is being delivered effectively, safely and in accordance with legislation and good practice.

 

The Traffic Control Team is responsible for monitoring live traffic feeds, reporting incidents and providing live information to the travelling public and coordinating changes to traffic signals. The Team looks to influence driver behaviour by advertising incidents and issues. This is achieved in part by maintaining good links with other authorities and public transport operators and by understanding and organising the underlying systems and data.

 

Technical Officers and Officers work on a shift system providing cover between 0630 and 1900 hours.

 

 

You should have:

Level 4 or above NVQ (e.g. HNC) (or similar qualification in the relevant discipline) OR significant experience in the relevant specialist field of work.

Significant experience working within the specified area of expertise.

Management experience within a similar work place.

A sound knowledge of the latest legislative requirements as they relate to the identified specialist field.

Communities

The Communities Directorate consists of approximately 800 staff supporting the County’s Highway, Waste, Property, Environment, Strategic Planning and Safety functions with many more people engaged in service delivery through our key supply chain or partner organisations.

Infrastructure Delivery Directorate

The services we deliver to residents and businesses of Oxfordshire include:

•           Highways maintenance (including winter maintenance)

•           Highway records

•           Highway improvements and construction

•           Flood risk management

•           Road space management (including traffic control centre)

•           Waste management

•           Parking services

•           Countryside management including two National Trails.

 

Traffic Control Team

The Traffic Control Service includes two Teams, Network Coordination and Traffic Control. The Network Coordination function ensures the smooth running of the network, coordinates utility, developer and private work on the highway, manages performance and minimises disruption to the travelling public.

Essential Role Requirements:

 

For Grade 10 (£29,909 - £32,233 per annum)

•           Significant experience working within the specified area of expertise. Management experience within a similar work place.

•           A Level 4 NVQ (e.g. HNC) (or similar qualification in the relevant discipline) OR significant experience in the relevant specialist field of work.

•           A sound knowledge of the latest legislative requirements as they relate to the identified specialist field.

 

For Grade 11 (£33,136 - £36,153 per annum)

•           Significant experience working within the specified area of expertise. Management experience within a similar work place.

•           Level 6 Qualification (e.g. Degree) (or similar qualification in the relevant discipline) OR significant experience in the relevant specialist field of work.

•           Demonstrable experience of effective engagement with customers and stakeholders within a public service context.

•           A sound knowledge of the latest legislative requirements as they relate to the identified specialist field.

 

Special Requirements:

•           Certain “out of hours” duties may be required in the normal course of duties.

 

Physical:

•           The ability to drive and the possession of a current driving licence, or ability to demonstrate an effective means of travel to remote areas of the county, are essential. The willingness to provide or utilise suitable transport for use during work hours for which a car or travel allowance will be paid and /or willingness to use a suitable vehicle provided for their duties.
