Salary Range: £30,507 - £36,876 per annum
Work Location: Currently Nash Court in Cowley, moving to Abbey House in Abingdon in Autumn 2019
Hours per week: 37
Contract type: Temporary (24 months and 12 months available)

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is interested in adoption work to join Adopt Thames Valley, a Regional Adoption Agency


Oxfordshire County Council hosts the Regional Adoption Agency, with offices in Oxford, Woodley and Swindon. Adopt Thames Valley provides adoption services to Oxfordshire, Swindon, Reading, West Berkshire, Bracknell, Wokingham and Windsor & Maidenhead local authorities. We have a Social Worker post based at the Oxfordshire Office. The majority of the casework will be with children in the Care of Oxfordshire County Council or with prospective adopters in or close to Oxfordshire, but the work will involve travel throughout the area served by the RAA, and sometimes further afield.  


We have two full-time posts available; a two-year temporary post and a one-year temporary post. Depending on the needs of the service, there may be opportunities for a permanent Social Work post in due course. We would also be happy to consider applicants on a secondment basis.


The successful candidate will have good social work experience with children and families, ideally including experience in permanency planning and /or placing and supporting children in adoption or long-term foster placements. They will become part of a hard-working and very supportive team who deliver services in the Oxfordshire and Swindon areas. The candidate will understand the principles of permanency planning and will be able to support and liaise with colleagues in the local authorities where children have permanency plans for adoption.  They will have good assessment skills to work with prospective adopters, and they will be able to support adoptive parents where the children placed might have complex emotional and behavioural needs.


The team is busy, and the work is varied and interesting. This post will give the successful candidate opportunity to learn and develop skills in adoption work.
