The Role:
Our Highways Commissioning Team is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Highways Manager to manage the Contract Management Team. This role is a key part of Hampshire’s Highways Service, responsible for delivering the County Council’s highways maintenance activities. You will work alongside other managers and our term service contractor, providing technical and professional leadership to teams managing the highway network, contracts, and service delivery.
As the Assistant Highways Manager, you will oversee a team of up to five staff. You will collaborate closely with highway delivery teams and external organisations, playing a crucial role in identifying and implementing contract improvements. You will explore new ways of working with our partners to foster collaboration and enhance the service provided to Hampshire residents. Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships at all levels are essential. You should have a solid knowledge of the highways maintenance environment, highway legislation, and national guidance, along with a strong understanding of highway contract management. Demonstrated experience and knowledge of financial management, as well as an understanding of the political context in which we operate both nationally and locally, are required.
This role is based at our Winchester office. However, under Hampshire County Council’s Open Workplace Policy, the successful candidate can perform most of their work from home, subject to business needs.
