Job Details:

Salary Range: £23,115 - £24,140 – pro-rata per annum 
Work Location: Hedge End, Bishop’s Waltham, West End and Netley 
Hours: 400 hours per annum 
Contract Type:  Temporary until end of March 2025 (Annualised Hours)

The Role:

Hampshire’s Library Service needs enthusiastic Library Team Assistants to join our busy and flexible teams. Your role will be to provide a welcoming environment for all, promote our services and facilities, plan and deliver fun and engaging activities for children and adults as this is a fundamental part of the role. You will work with partners to signpost customers where required and assist with the management of stock, as well as carrying out a wide range of administrative duties.
 
You’ll be providing an excellent customer experience to everyone who visits our libraries and encouraging people to read a range of authors and book titles, download our apps for eMagazines and eBooks /eAudiobooks. You will take part in special promotions for adults and children, sign up for courses and events and using our IT facilities.

 

You’ll have a good general education combined with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with a good standard of IT skills. You will embrace flexible working and be able to use your own initiative when required.  

 

You will be required to travel between a small ‘cluster’ of libraries. The role requires travelling between Hedge End, West End, Netley and Bishop’s Waltham Libraries, as well as very occasional travel to other libraries as required. You will need to fulfil specific travel requirements which will be outlined at interview.

 

The role is specifically in place to provide essential branch cover for leave, sickness and training. Therefore, the work pattern will be highly variable and requires excellent availability and flexibility to work Monday-Saturday of varying shift lengths.

 

Hours will include frequent Saturday working and work throughout school holidays. There will also be a requirement to provide some cover for planned and unplanned absences, sometimes at short notice.
