Appointment Details:
Allowance: £813 per annum plus travel expenses
Location: Home based, with requirement to attend meetings in Hampshire
Period of Office: Up to 4 years

If the answer to these questions is ‘yes’ then you may be able to help the County Council by acting as an ‘Independent Person’.
The role of the Independent Person is twofold:
Ethical governance:
- To offer your opinion when consulted by the County Council’s Monitoring Officer or Conduct Advisory Panel Sub-Committee regarding an allegation made against a Member or Co-opted Member of the County Council.
- To offer your opinion when consulted by a Member or Co-opted Member of the County Council regarding an allegation made against them.
Statutory Officers:
- You may be appointed to an advisory panel required to be convened to consider, and advise the County Council on, a proposed dismissal of a specified statutory officer.
The County Council is seeking to appoint several Independent Persons who must be able to demonstrate a high level of personal integrity and a commitment to equality, inclusion and diversity, whilst also having an appreciation of the ethical standards required of persons holding public office. It is important to be able to provide clear thinking, make objective and reasoned judgements, and be impartial. The County Council would particularly welcome applications from people based within or around Hampshire.
An annual allowance, plus travel expenses will be payable. The appointments are likely to be for up to four years.
Please note that you cannot be appointed if you are, or have been within the last 5 years, a Member, Co-opted Member or Officer of the County Council, or if you are a relative or close friend of any such person. You must be aged 18 or over.

Would you be interested in being considered for the role of Independent Person at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Authority as well?
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Authority are also seeking to appoint two Independent Persons. There is no requirement to submit applications to both Hampshire County Council and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Authority but applicants may choose to do so. The selection and appointment processes are entirely separate from each other.
An annual allowance of £112, plus travel expenses will be payable. The appointments are likely to be for up to four years.
Please note that you cannot be appointed if you are, or have been within the last 5 years, a Member, Co-opted Member or Officer of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Authority, or if you are a relative or close friend of any such person. You must be aged 18 or over.
