The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and safety-focused professional to make a real impact within Hampshire Outdoor Centres (HOC), part of Hampshire County Council. HOC delivers transformative outdoor education and recreational experiences that help young people and communities thrive.

As Operations Support Manager, you’ll be at the heart of our mission—championing a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across our centres. This role is ideal for someone who works well in a varied, hands-on environment and is passionate about embedding best practices in risk management and operational delivery.

You’ll bring strategic insight and practical expertise to help shape and evolve our systems, ensuring they remain robust, responsive, and aligned with national standards. Working across multiple sites, you’ll collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, from Centre teams to technical advisors, playing a key role in maintaining our reputation for excellence.

This is more than a compliance role; it’s about leadership, influence, and innovation. You’ll help drive forward our training culture, support service development, and contribute to the long-term success of outdoor learning in Hampshire.

What you’ll do:

As a key member of our Service Support team, you will: 

•    Lead the planning and monitoring of risk management systems
•    Support Centre teams with training, audits, and inspections
•    Coordinate cross service training and deliver staff development initiatives
•    Deliver development projects and provide operational support during peak periods
•    Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

What we’re looking for:

We are looking for someone with: 

•    A graduate-level qualification in a relevant field
•    Holds a range of outdoor instruction qualifications including a higher-level instructor or trainer qualification (e.g., MCI, ERCA Trainer, RYA Trainer)
•    Extensive experience in risk management within outdoor learning field
•    Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills
•    A passion for outdoor learning and a commitment to continuous improvement

This role is hybrid, with travel required across Hampshire and occasionally further afield. You must hold a valid driving licence and have access to a reliable vehicle.
