Help Keep Hampshire Moving – Join Our Transport Planning Team
Join Hampshire County Council as a Transport Planner and help shape the county’s transport future. You’ll provide highway advice on planning applications, support sustainable development, and work closely with colleagues, councils, developers, and communities. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to policy, deliver key projects, and support team development while making a real impact on how Hampshire moves.
The Role:
What you’ll do:
In this varied and rewarding role, you’ll contribute to the delivery of high-quality highway advice on planning applications, working both independently and as part of a collaborative team. You’ll support the negotiation and project management of highway agreements and development-related Travel Plans, while also helping to mentor and develop junior colleagues.
Strong communication will be key, as you engage with District Councils, developers, elected Members, colleagues and the public through meetings, correspondence and calls. You’ll also play an important part in keeping the Development Planning function running smoothly—supporting pre-application services, contributing to local plan consultations, and helping shape new policies and practices.
Alongside this, you’ll assist in preparing technical reports, committee papers and planning appeal documentation, ensuring that clear, well-informed advice supports decision-making and delivers positive outcomes for Hampshire’s communities.
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and driven transport planning professional who’s ready to develop their career and make a real impact. You’ll bring relevant qualifications (A-Levels or equivalent) and hands-on experience, along with a passion for learning and growing towards a professional accreditation.
With strong digital skills, excellent communication abilities, and confidence engaging with a range of stakeholders, you’ll thrive in a collaborative team environment. Your understanding of planning and transport policy, combined with an interest in data and modelling, will help you contribute to meaningful projects across the county. If you’re adaptable, proactive, and enjoy tackling new challenges, this is a fantastic opportunity to build your expertise in a supportive and forward-thinking team.
