The Role:

Hampshire Trading Standards Service is looking to recruit an experienced, highly motivated and energetic Senior Officer to encourage, nurture and develop a small team of enthusiastic individuals who are relatively new to the Trading Standards environment.

In this varied role, you will examine intelligence to identify, coordinate and deliver enforcement interventions appropriate to the circumstances, with regard to national standards, local priorities and service objectives.

What you’ll do:

As an investigator with additional line management responsibilities, you will be confronted with a range of complex challenges requiring you to be methodical and to utilise problem-solving skills to identify practical solutions based on sound judgement and reasoning. You will provide detailed advice on relevant legislation, conduct inspections of businesses to ensure compliance with the law and, where appropriate, take formal enforcement action in circumstances where significant alleged criminal offences have been committed.

You will be expected to work collaboratively with senior colleagues and other enforcement agencies to achieve desired results at pace, working to agreed goals and activities and responding to complex challenges constructively. This will require a strong team ethic and the ability to influence and mentor others.

In an ever-changing environment, the successful candidate will promote a flexible and agile culture, demonstrating a willingness to learn and the ability to respond positively to new developments.

As a champion of continuous improvement, and with a strong belief in customer service principles, you will support the aim of delivering a consistently high level of service.

What we’re looking for:

With the relevant formal qualification (DTS, DCA, DCATS, TSPD), or extensive proven experience within Trading Standards, you will be ideally equipped to guide and support a new team through the ever-changing landscape of consumer protection. A willingness to tackle new challenges and an inherent professional curiosity will inspire and motivate others to accomplish their potential.

If you are passionate about protecting consumers and have the desire and ambition to embrace the challenges of a new team and forge its direction, then we would love to hear from you.
