We're seeking a talented and motivated Designer to join our Communications team – part of Policy and Public Affairs.

The Role:

This exciting role will be responsible for creating engaging digital and print materials for a wide range of services within Hampshire County Council.

You will bring your creative ideas to life across a variety of projects – designing multimedia advertising campaigns, visual identities and guidelines, motion graphics, infographics, brochures, leaflets, and reports. You will also help to develop, apply, and maintain our corporate brand.

Reporting to the Design Manager, you will work closely alongside the design team and our Communications and Brand Officers to effectively and positively engage with our audiences – while always demonstrating an understanding of the issues and any sensitivities involved.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop engaging visuals across digital and print formats for a range of services within the County Council – including Public Health, Countryside Services, Libraries and Children’s Services
  • Interpret briefs, contribute to creative brainstorming sessions, and consider target audiences to produce effective, relevant, and professional design solutions
  • Ensure smooth project progression – from the initial brief, through the concepting, development and approval stages, to the final product
  • Maintain efficient and organised projects, folders and files – making sure everything is clearly labelled, easy to find and navigate, and tagged correctly when archived. All complying with GDPR and retention laws
  • Help account handlers and clients to evaluate the performance of marketing campaigns to ensure the outcomes inform and shape future phases and projects
  • Keep on top of new developments within the commercial design profession, along with implementing and sharing any new processes to work more effectively and efficiently
  • Contribute to, and maintain an awareness of, corporate policies that impact directly on the delivery of projects, in particular the corporate identity, accessibility and sustainability

What we’re looking for:

  • You will have relevant experience working within an agency or in-house team in a design role
  • You will be a passionate creative thinker, and capable of coming up with fresh ideas and solutions – combined with a keen eye for detail, layout and typography – to meet complex design briefs
  • You will have excellent organising and planning skills, as well as outstanding communication skills
  • You will be confident at working within a Windows environment, and experienced with the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of software (especially InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop), and will have a good understanding of Microsoft Office
  • You will have experience in motion graphics (After Effects)
  • You must be enthusiastic and self-motivated, capable of working flexibly, under pressure and to tight deadlines – both collaboratively as a team and on your own, taking initiative to complete jobs to a high standard
  • You will be confident advising officers, partners and suppliers – and working in a politically sensitive environment

Why join us?

You will be part of a forward-thinking team that values innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement. The materials you will be designing will have a real impact on both County Council staff and residents of Hampshire.

Our benefits package includes details of the holiday entitlement, pension scheme, flexi-time scheme, family friendly policies and interest free travel loans and discounts.
