The Role:

Hampshire County Council is seeking a Building Surveyor to support the delivery of planned maintenance, improvement and capital projects across a diverse and high-profile property portfolio. Working within a friendly and supportive multi-disciplinary team of over 400 property professionals, you will manage the design and delivery of building projects, supervise works on site, and provide professional building surveying advice across the organisation.

The Council’s estate includes schools, libraries, museums, country parks, care homes, offices, activity centres, farms, and heritage assets, ranging from modern developments to listed buildings and scheduled ancient monuments. What you’ll do:

  • Manage the design and delivery of building repair, maintenance and improvement projects  
  • Undertake site inspections and supervise works to ensure compliance with specifications and statutory requirements  
  • Administer contracts and manage consultants and contractors  
  • Provide professional building surveying advice and contribute to property strategies and programmes  

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for a qualified and motivated Building Surveying professional with a strong background in delivering building-related projects.

You’ll hold a relevant accredited degree or HNC/HND (or equivalent) in building or a related discipline, and have significatn, hands-on experience in building surveying. This includes acting as a lead project officer, managing projects or programmes of work, and working effectively within multi‑disciplinary teams.

You’ll have a strong working knowledge of construction health and safety legislation and standard forms of contract, including JCT, and be committed to progressing towards chartered status with a recognised professional body such as RICS, CIOB or CIAT.

You’ll be IT literate, with confidence using Microsoft Office 365. Experience acting as a Principal Designer under CDM and the Building Safety Act is desirable, as is CAD capability (ideally AutoCAD).
