The Role:

As an Attendance Intervention Officer within our Inclusion Support Service, you’ll make a genuine difference in the lives of the most vulnerable children and young people. You’ll help improve school attendance and engagement in education by understanding and addressing the challenges these children face. Working closely with children, young people, families and schools, you’ll help to identify and remove barriers to education and where needed, administer the legal processes to create better educational outcomes for children.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing clear advice and guidance on attendance concerns to schools, families and other professionals.
  • Working across the School Attendance Support Team, chairing Attendance Meetings to explore barriers to attendance and developing Attendance Contracts or reintegration plans.
  • Liaising with partner agencies to help children access and engage with education.
  • Administering the Attendance Legal Process, including producing legal documentation and attending court when required.
  • Using data and accurate case records to support decision making around case progression.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience supporting and engaging with children, families and professionals across a range of settings, including confident use of professional curiosity and conflict management. 
  • Strong understanding of the barriers that prevent children and families from engaging with education, alongside a solid grounding in safeguarding principles.
  • Excellent communication, record keeping and IT skills, including confident use of data systems and spreadsheets, and the ability to produce clear and accurate written reports.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage your own workload and diary effectively in a fast paced, frequently changing environment.
  • Adaptable and values driven, demonstrating compassion, empathy and respect in all interactions.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to our assessment centre in Winchester on 25th February. The morning will include assessment activities, and those who are successful will be asked to stay for an interview in the afternoon. Please ensure you are available for the whole day.
