An exciting opportunity has arisen for Personal Advisers to join our Care Leavers team at Hampshire County Council.

Are you looking for a challenging and diverse role working as part of a friendly and supportive team, with an opportunity to make a real difference?

The Role:

Hampshire County Council’s Care Leavers’ teams are committed to improving outcomes for young people when they leave our care. As corporate parents, we want our young people to grow into confident adults and support them in making the transition into adulthood and independent living; we know that success will look different for each individual.

What you’ll do:

You will be responsible for a case load of young people aged 16-25 from different backgrounds with differing life experiences. You will organise your diary so that you can manage the priorities of visiting young people and complete the administrative work.

The main role is to act as a mentor and coach for young people so that you can support them to reach their full potential. This will mean working individually with young people and also liaising with our partner agencies to ensure the best outcomes and empower young people to make their own positive choices. The role is hybrid so you will be expected to work on the move, at home and also in our offices.

What we’re looking for:

  • The ability to establish and maintain relationships with young people aged 16-25 years and the skills to work with partner agencies and families/carers.
  • A full understanding of the needs of young people; adverse childhood experiences and the challenges faced by care leavers in adulthood. Clear evidence of having experience of working with this client group.
  • Demonstrate core values of patience, empathy, and compassion.
  • A team player with strong collaborative skills but also the ability to lone work with the ability to dynamically risk assess situations and locations.
  • Sound IT skills and able to accurately record information and use the resources at hand.

Take a look at our Candidate Pack for more information about the Care Leaver Personal Advisor role, team and our values. The section ‘About you’ explains what specific knowledge, skills and experience we want you to tell us about. Make sure you explain how you meet these requirements and demonstrate our values, in your application.

Why join us?

  • Comprehensive induction programme with all necessary training.
  • Great satisfaction from supporting young people to reach independence successfully.
  • Commitment to personal development including the opportunity to train as a Social Worker.
  • Preparation for future senior-level opportunities.

Our benefits package includes details of the holiday entitlement, pension scheme, flexi-time scheme, family friendly policies and interest free travel loans and discounts. We offer a flexible, motivating and inclusive workplace. We have created an environment that you can look forward to being a part of, where you are empowered to be your best and a workplace built on teamwork where people can grow and develop in their roles.

Applicants can expect to hear from us within two weeks of the advertised closing date.

Please note: We are unable to offer sponsorship for this role and therefore it is essential that you already have the right to work in the UK.

Other roles you may have experience of may include: youth support worker, youth worker, family support worker, residential support worker, supported accommodation worker, support worker, youth justice worker, youth caseworker

Travel Requirements:

You may be required to visit other locations within Hampshire and the Isle of Wight or other local authority, and therefore need to have the ability to travel, as necessary.
