Set in over 180 acres of rolling Hampshire countryside the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens is home to one of the most important modern plant collections in the world. With three separate and unique Catering Outlets, including the brand-new fine dining Garden Restaurant and Tea Rooms, there is somewhere to suit every taste, and every budget.


We are seeking an experienced Assistant Restaurant Manager. You will be enthusiastic and self-motivated, with strong supervisory and communication skills. You will be hands on with an eye for detail, ensuring high standards of customer satisfaction. Working in either our new waitress service Garden restaurant and tea rooms or Pavilion counter assisted service restaurant, you will assist with the coordination of the service team members, respond to customer queries, maintain high standards of quality control, hygiene and health and safety, maintaining stock levels and managing accurate Cash controls.

Job Purpose:


To assist with the management of the restaurant & tea room service at Hillier Gardens

Role Responsibilities:


  • To liaise with Restaurant Manager, General Manager (GM), Deputy General Manager (DGM) & Head Chef (HC)
  •  Deal with the clients / customers on a day to day basis
  •  Act as a HC3S representative when dealing with contractors and delivery personnel 
  •  Positively present and market the business
  •  Ensure that the presentation of the customer areas are attractive 
  •  Supervise the setting up and clearing procedures in each outlet
  •  Ensure staff are fully aware of the menu's and any changes 
  •  Advise on special dietary needs
  •  Take part in menu development 
  •  Encourage customer feedback and effective communication 
  •  Ensure accuracy of information re. events, promotions and ancillary business is communicated by staff
  •  Assist with the completion of accurate financial, HR, legislative, health & safety & admin requirements as necessary.
  •  Collate monies and prepare for banking following strict guidelines and ensure correct audit procedures are in place
  • Aid the DGM in the training & development of staff.
  •  Aid the GM & DGM in developing new income streams within the unit
  •  Participat in evening events involving bars/refreshments and assisting general

Role Requirements:


Desirable Qualifications

Level 3 Food Safety

Hospitality and Catering NVQ


Desirable knowledge, experience and skills

Experience of catering

Good communication skills, tact and diplomacy, team work and administration

Flexible to cover hours dependant on needs of the business

Working Conditions:


Able to move items around which are 16kg or less.
