Make a difference where it matters – keep Hampshire moving.
Are you an experienced vehicle technician looking for sociable hours, a supportive team, and the chance to take real pride in the work you do? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and professional workshop team at Hampshire Transport Management (HTM), helping maintain the reliability and safety of the vehicles that keep our county running.
At Hampshire County Council, we serve the people of Hampshire “with purpose and pride to improve lives, today and for tomorrow.” As one of the highest performing local authorities in the UK, we’re known for innovation, professionalism, and our commitment to developing our people.
The Role:
As a Workshop Technician, you’ll carry out inspections, servicing, repairs and MOT preparation on a wide range of light and heavy vehicles, helping ensure they remain safe, roadworthy and compliant.
You’ll use modern diagnostic tools, work to DVSA standards, maintain accurate records, and support occasional call outs or roadside assistance. You’ll be part of a skilled team committed to quality, safety and professional standards.
What you’ll do:
In this role, you’ll carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs and trailers, including diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using specialist diagnostic equipment. You’ll prepare vehicles for MOTs, conduct inspections in line with DVSA standards, and complete thorough safety checks to ensure full compliance with health and safety requirements.
You will maintain accurate records of all work undertaken, respond to breakdowns and provide roadside assistance when needed, and ensure tools and equipment are safely used and well maintained. Working closely with fellow technicians, you’ll also report major issues to the Workshop Manager and support the smooth running of the workshop.
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for a skilled Vehicle Technician with an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair and proven experience in a similar role. You’ll bring strong diagnostic and problem‑solving abilities, good knowledge of DVSA regulations, and the confidence to work both independently and as part of a team. Experience in working on HGVs and LGV or D1 licence are strongly desirable. Experience with modern diagnostic tools and software, additional industry certifications such as IRTEC or ADR, and welding or fabrication skills would also be beneficial.
