Are you looking for a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same? Join Hampshire County Council’s Streetworks team and play a key role in helping to manage and improve works on the county’s highways.
The Role:
As a Streetworks Inspector, you’ll help deliver the County Council’s statutory duties under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, regulating utility and highway works across the North Hampshire area. Working both independently and as part of a supportive team, you’ll carry out inspections of utility, third-party and County Council works on the highway, identifying defects, ensuring compliance and helping to resolve issues efficiently.
What you’ll do:
You’ll work closely with contractors, utility companies and colleagues, while also responding to enquiries from residents and other stakeholders. In addition, you’ll support local Streetworks coordination activities and contribute to performance management and service improvement initiatives.
What we’re looking for:
We’re seeking a proactive and organised individual who can manage a varied workload with minimal supervision. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential, as you’ll regularly engage with members of the public, contractors and partner organisations.
You will have:
- The ability to work independently and prioritise competing demands.
- Excellent communication and customer care skills.
- A practical and problem-solving approach.
- The ability to meet the travel requirements of the role.
Experience within highways, construction, utilities or a related field would be advantageous, although we welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills and relevant experience.
This role can also be undertaken as an apprenticeship, providing an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and gain a recognised qualification whilst you work. Successful candidates may have the option to complete either a:
- Level 3 Civil Engineering Apprenticeship, or
- Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship.
If you’re passionate about delivering excellent public services and want to make a real difference to Hampshire’s highway network, we’d love to hear from you.
