Waterway Ranger HCC261250

Job Details:

Salary Range: £21,403 - £24,055 per annum per annum plus enhancements in region of £3,500 per annum for standby duty and weekend cover.
Work Location: The Canal Centre, Surrey
Hours per week: 37
Contract Type: Permanent
Closing Date: 5 December 2021

We are looking for a well organised self-starter to join our small team on the Basingstoke Canal. This is an opportunity to deploy and develop a wide range of site management and practical skills on a distinctly different countryside and heritage site.

Crossing the Hampshire and Surrey Borders, the 32-mile Basingstoke Canal is a designated SSSI and highly used recreational resource. With 29 Locks and numerous bridges, structures and embankments, the 200-year-old, tree lined waterway demands constant attention. You will be at the forefront of this joining a small team to manage the boating, conservation, recreation, asset safety, and water levels.

The role will include the requirement to carry out 24hr 'Duty' cover which will involve working weekends on a rota basis to provide emergency response. This also requires the Ranger to live within close proximity to the centre point of the Canal (GU16 6DD) to be able to fulfil emergency response timescales.

Hampshire County Council offers a competitive salary and benefits package, please see our website for details: Our Benefits Package
