Contract Type: Temporary until 25 March 2027 (Term-Time only)
Closing Date: 31 May 2026

The Role:
As a Bilingual Assistant, you will help children and young people who are learning English as an Additional Language (EAL) to improve their educational outcomes and wellbeing. This may include working with children and young people who are refugees or Separated Minors (UASC).
This position requires the successful candidate to be fully proficient in Polish.

This is a Term-Time only role working 39 weeks per year.
What you’ll do:
You will use your bilingual skills to support pupils in all school phases from Reception to Year 11. In groups and on a one-to-one basis, you will support them to access the mainstream curriculum and to realise their aspirations for their futures. Your support will help them engage in their education, raise their attainment and ensure that the children’s cultures and languages are valued in school.
Acting as an interpreter for parental discussions, you will also gather background information about individual children, informally assess their skills in Polish and English and support home-school communication. You will advise teachers of pupils’ first language development and underlying cognitive ability. This will include informing teachers of areas where the children may require additional support, for example if they are experiencing the impacts of trauma, racist abuse or bullying.
