Police Officer - Policing PLUS (Police Constable) - HC610778

** Please note you do not need to add a CV or covering letter as part of this application **

What stops you joining policing?

In Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary (HIOWC), who YOU are as a person is far more important to us than what qualifications you hold. We know that people who have life experience and a thirst to make a difference make great police officers.

You don’t have level 3 qualifications? If you have worked in a job where you’ve had to use your judgement, solve complex problems, built relationships you might be able to join us without qualifications. Do you have any previous work experience in the Armed Forces or in a role in law enforcement, this might be all your need to become a police officer.

Worried about your level of fitness? Whilst it is your personal responsibility to maintain your own health and fitness, we are very keen to support where we can. Please see here for ideas on how you could improve your current fitness level to achieve the required standard.

We are looking for people who want to help us make HIOWC safe and feel safe. You will focus on a community area, getting to know people, picking up intelligence and solving crime. The type of policing in HIOWC is looking for every opportunity to investigate crime and bring criminals to justice.

You will join as a Police Officer and learn the basic skills of the job before considering where you specialise. In HIOWC every officer has a responsibility to investigate crime, whether that is part of your local neighbourhood role or as a Detective Constable focused entirely on investigations. This truly is a job where no two days are the same and one that brings satisfaction, support and challenge.

Policing isn’t just for college leavers. There’s no degree or university study required, your training programme will be practically focused to give you the very best skills for the job. Even if you’ve never thought about policing before, talk to us about your skills as there might be a secure but exciting career just waiting for you.

If you want to learn more about the force and our mission, you can watch this video.

We have entry routes that will allow you to become a Police Constable or a Detective Constable.

Salary and Benefits

It’s making a difference that motivates our people the most, but it is also important to do as much as we can to make sure that police officers are paid fairly. That’s why Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has chosen to have the highest starting salary of any force in the South East, with new recruits currently joining on more than £28,000 per annum plus allowances and benefits. The force’s wellbeing offer is rated one of the best in the country.

As you develop your skills, your salary can rise to more than £46,000 per annum after seven years as a police constable. We encourage and support opportunities for promotion and development where you could progress through the ranks, to Sergeant, Inspector and beyond. As an example, as an Inspector you would earn more than £58,000 per annum.
