Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced senior police officers for the role of Chief Constable of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary. 

 

 

Role: Chief Constable  

 

Salary: £200,652 plus Housing Allowance or South East Area Allowance (as applicable) and an attractive benefits package including a vehicle for use and private medical insurance (further details available on request)   

 

Duration: An initial fixed term contract of up to five years

Brief details of the role:  

As Chief Constable, you will have overall responsibility for leading one of the biggest forces in the country, delivering policing services to over two million people with approximately 6,000 officers and staff.  

 

You will work with the Police & Crime Commissioner to create a shared vision that will support a growing and improving workforce to reduce crime, increase detection rates and make the two counties some of the safest places to live in Britain.   

 

Setting clear direction, creating an ethical culture and driving up performance that will build public and organisational confidence and trust, you will be responsible for the operational delivery of a professional, effective and efficient policing service that aims to lead the way on the national stage with innovation and courage.  

 

You will be an ambitious, straight-talking, operationally competent, strategic police leader who can influence at local and national levels. With a passion for outstanding policing, you will be a Chief Constable who can turn strategy into action and motivate the whole force to deliver for local communities.

Eligibility: 

Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria outlined by the College of Policing Preparing to appoint a chief police officer | College of Policing  

 

Applicants for Chief Constable must have held the rank of ACC, commander or a more senior rank in a UK police force, or must meet the eligibility requirements as an overseas officer. 

 

Applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK, and the successful candidate will be required to live in Hampshire or within a reasonable commuting distance of the Force Strategic Headquarters in Eastleigh. A relocation package is available upon request. 

 

 

 

 

Application and assessment process: 

Applications will be shortlisted against the eligibility requirements and the CVF areas detailed within the Recruitment Information Pack. Successful candidates will be invited to attend a two day selection process with day 1 at Strategic Headquarters, Leigh Road, Eastleigh, SO50 9SJ and day 2 at Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, Dean Farm Estate, Wickham Road, Fareham, PO17 5BN.  

 

The assessment days will comprise a force familiarisation briefing, an internal People Panel, an external Stakeholder Panel, and interview with the Appointment Panel.
