About Us:

While Westminster draws millions of people to its streets with a dynamic social life, elegant architecture and iconic tourist destinations, there is also a less glamorous side to this incredible city. Because while many of our residents enjoy all that the city has to offer with good jobs and secure homes, other members of society have somehow fallen through the cracks, ending up sleeping on the streets. The Joint Homelessness Team (JHT) are at the forefront of meeting this complex challenge. Passionate about seeking the best services and solutions for Westminster’s rough sleepers, they shape brighter life outcomes for hundreds of people. Striving to get as many people off the streets and into sustainable accommodation as possible, they ultimately secure improved mental health and wellbeing for this vulnerable sector of society. And with your support, we could achieve so much more.

The Role:

We need you to provide a valuable community mental health service to homeless individuals who are not in contact with statutory health and social care services. Many of Westminster’s rough sleepers have severe and enduring mental health issues, and with your help, they will stand a better chance of improving their life outcomes. As such, we will look to you to conduct Mental Health Act assessments and devise individualised care plans. Helping these individuals secure housing and gain access to the health facilities that they so desperately need, you will also work with our impressive network of third sector partnership agencies to achieve the best possible results – including sharing your expertise on mental health and homelessness with their staff.

With your early morning and late evening outreach shifts taking you onto Westminster’s streets, you will quickly see the results of your endeavours – making for a truly satisfying role that is enhanced by a collaborative and friendly network of colleagues who are all committed to helping each other secure their goals.

About You:

With a diploma in Social Work that will allow you to secure HCPC registration as a Social Worker, you will have experience of working with people with mental health issues. You will need a good understanding of homelessness and housing, and you will have a solid grasp of all associated legislation. Having been trained and warranted as an AMHP, you will know how to carry out assessments relating to need and risk, and you will have the confidence to make effective decisions when under pressure.  As an empathetic individual with great communication skills, you will be able to form solid working relationships with agencies in the homeless sector.

What We Offer:

From access to our highly desirable local government pension scheme to generous annual leave, the benefits package for this role is what you would expect of an organisation that truly values its employees. In fact, we place such emphasis on recruiting and retaining the best talent to Westminster City Council, that we have devised something we refer to as ‘The Westminster Way’. This is our promise to our employees that they will always be valued in the workplace, and that they will be respected as leaders in their respective fields. This extends to our highly developed diversity and inclusivity policies, plus a commitment to develop the skills of our people with progressive training opportunities. So join us, and experience for yourself why our valuable employees are so proud to say they are a member of our team.
