About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM

Innovation and Change in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories.

Where people use their vision and commitment to open doors for the next generations.

Nothing beats the feeling of helping someone find their passion. At Westminster City Council, our City Lions team helps young local people engage with culture, creativity and dreams. When they came across a lonely, isolated 16-year-old who called himself a failure, they knew what to do. They worked 1-2-1 to find the thing this boy really loved. YouTube, it turned out. But it’s impossible to turn that into a career, right? Wrong. A week later, he was enrolled on the British Film Institute Film-making programme. It was the ultimate light-bulb moment. And it turned him into what he is today - a budding Spielberg with the world of opportunity at his feet.

The Role:

As a Senior Strategic Communications Officer, you can make your own powerful contribution.

This will see you deliver strategic campaign and communication activities that drive our City for All priorities. This is about using information to make behaviour change campaigns land. These will be informed by sophisticated customer insight which will enable you to plan and identify the most effective channels and tools to engage our audiences and influence their perceptions. It goes without saying that this will cover the full marcomms mix.

In short, what you do will support the overarching narrative to help achieve our strategic objectives. Providing policy advice and guidance to colleagues, interpreting qualitative and quantitative data to identify insight and developing strong relationships across the Council and beyond will also be key.

About You:

As well as an impressive background in creating proactive communication strategies, you’ll combine a strong practical grasp of a variety of tools, techniques and channels with the emotional intelligence to deal sensitively and maturely with all our needs. You’ll know how to manage stakeholders and external agencies to minimise reputational risk and build credibility in a political environment.

Your passion for communications will be clear from your industry influences, memberships and interest in relevant events and knowledge of the latest innovations in your area

What We Offer:

Our mission is to create a city for all. We’re an organisation that wants the very best for our residents: a supportive and safe environment, the chance to grow and learn throughout their lives, to build fantastic careers in world-leading industries, to have access to high quality, affordable homes and to retire into the community with dignity and pride.

At Westminster City Council, we believe everyone should be valued, and we are passionate about our aim to be an inclusive workplace that reflects the communities we serve. As such, we particularly welcome applicants from underrepresented backgrounds, including BAME, LGBTQ+ and those with hidden or visible disabilities. Quite simply, we’re committed to ensuring all our staff – regardless of gender, age, religion, sexuality, ethnicity or disability – can succeed.

We appreciate that people work in different ways. As a progressive and innovative organisation, we welcome applications from candidates keen on working in an agile environment. Furthermore, as a Timewise employer we strive to provide flexible working arrangements and an empowering environment that enables you to be your best. With such a commitment to helping our people achieve a great work/life balance, we were delighted to be awarded the ‘Best Health and Wellbeing Initiative’ in the Business Culture Awards 2020, while we were Highly Commended in the ‘Diversity & Inclusion’ category
