About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF GIRO’S PERSUASIVE POWERS

The Adult Social Care team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. We love it when our work touches lives.

Take Stepping to the Beat, our 3k walk, jog or run for people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, their families and carers. It’s a life-affirming, music-based event Coreen and Claudia are massively proud of – and they were keen for people to spread the word.

So, imagine how thrilled they were when one of our residents, Giro, did just that. Advocating for people with disabilities at a planning meeting for transport in London, he was proudly wearing his event medal. And he decided to use it to encourage others. As he passed it around the room, Giro inspired lots more people with disabilities to get involved. Infectious enthusiasm goes a long way here.

The Role:

As a Care Manager in our North Complex team, you can make your own powerful contribution to the lives of our residents, in particular older people and people with a physical disability, and their carers. Responding to service users from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds, who have wide range of complex needs, you’ll offer support in the use of personal budgets to enable them to live as independently as possible in the community.

This is a busy team and the ability to hold a complex caseload, throughput work effectively and provide regular support to our duty system is expected. Safeguarding Adults (SA) and assessing risk is an integral part of our work.  At the same time, we look out for each other and are committed to meeting your personal and professional needs: informal day-to-day support is matched by regular one-to-one meetings.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

A qualified and registered social worker, community nurse or occupational therapist, you’ll have experience of a local authority or health setting. This should include working with older or physically disabled people and a proven commitment to the principles of personalisation, independence and choice.  Well-developed skills in Mental Capacity Assessments and a sound knowledge of SA processes and the Care Act are essential. Your excellent powers of communication will include the ability to negotiate on behalf of the commissioning authority or service user and to produce written work to a high standard.  You’ll also have strong IT skills, and will be ready to work as part of a flexible, multidisciplinary team.

What We Offer:

Westminster is an amazing place. There are 250,000 diverse residents, over 50,000 vibrant and vital businesses and three-quarters-of-a-million people working here every day.  Our mission is to create city for all. We’re an organisation that wants the very best for our residents:  a supportive and safe environment, the chance to grow and learn throughout their lives, to build fantastic careers in world-leading industries, to have access to high-quality, affordable housing and to retire into the community with dignity and pride.

We want Westminster to be a place you can make the most of your talents and thrive as an individual. That’s why we’re proud to have won Best Health & Wellbeing Initiative in the 2020/21 Business Culture Awards.  By being the best you can be, you’ll help us adapt to the changing needs of our organisation and communities.  As a progressive and innovative organisation, we welcome applications from candidates keen on working in an agile environment with flexible conditions.

At Westminster City Council, we are passionate about our aim to be an inclusive workplace for all that reflects the communities we serve, and we believe everyone is valued. We particularly welcome applicants from underrepresented backgrounds, including BAME, LGBTQ+ and those with hidden or visible disabilities. We’re committed to ensuring all our staff – regardless of gender, age, religion, sexuality, ethnicity or disability – can succeed. We value diversity and appreciate that people work in different ways. So, as a Timewise employer we work to provide flexible working arrangements and an empowering environment that enables you to be your best, that is the Westminster Way.
