The Role:

As a member of our friendly and knowledgeable department, you will find a fantastically collaborative team spirit awaits you. Working across council and private housing, in businesses and our own offices, you will enjoy a warm welcome from residents and workers who are keen for you to take away their biggest fears! Our work is essential to reducing the spread of disease, so we don't just eradicate pests (including rats, mice, fleas, bedbugs, cockroaches, and wasps), we determine how that problem has arisen and what we need to do to make sure it doesn't return. That might mean handling challenges yourself – such as checking drains to identify potential breaks (which may require a CCTV survey) and fitting missing drain interceptor caps – but you will also be required to negotiate with external organisations to ensure they are playing their part in resolving the problem. For example, you might find that there are holes in cupboards that the landlord needs to deal with, and you will take the appropriate enforcement action if landlords or property owners and occupiers do not take the relevant measures to control pest infestations. Bird control and proofing is another area of the team’s work. With every day presenting you with new challenges, you can expect to handle functions such as collecting clinical waste, unblocking drains, and clearing filthy and verminous properties, and you will support the execution of contracts such as distributing air quality diffusion tubes and Planning Application Notices on behalf of other councils.

About You:

There is a great deal of detective work in this role, as you will be investigating complex pest problems and coming up with evidence-based solutions. You will therefore thrive in our team if you enjoy solving challenges, and you have excellent IT and verbal and written communication skills with the capacity to work with external stakeholders such as landlords and builders. With experience in delivering pest control treatments and offering proofing advice, you will hold an RSPH Level 2 in Pest Management, and you will have a good awareness of rodents and insect pests including their biology and methods of control. You will also have a good understanding of pest control legislation and a clean driving license, and you will be a solution-focussed individual.
