Salary range:£9.81 per hour plus holiday pay

Work location: HMP, Huntercombe and HMP, Bullingdon

Hours per week: Various - as and when cover required, up to maximum 37 hours per week

Contract type: Casual

Closing date: Saturday 30th October 2021

Vetting requirements: Although a DBS clearance is not required, clearance checks for regular prison access will be required.



About us


Oxfordshire County Council are contracted to provide staffing and library provision for the library in two prisons in the county; HMP Huntercombe near Henley, and HMP Bullingdon near Bicester. Both are all-male prisons operated by HMPS.


Although both sites are currently working under some residual Covid19 restrictions, our post Covid19 regime requires Customer Service Advisers to work shifts covering from 08:30 to 19:00hrs, five days a week. The service users have timetabled access to the library, and we service over 400 visits per week. During their visit the service users have access to a stand-alone computer, national and international newspapers, they can also loan from a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books DVD's, they can also access inter library loans for a small cost.



About the role


In this role you will assist the Library Manager in providing excellent, customer focused reading, lending and information services to the service users and staff at HMP Huntercombe and HMP Bullingdon. This involves encouraging a love of reading, the use of books and providing and promoting information services and fostering literacy. Resources are required to be delivered either in the library itself, or to prisoners in their respective wings around the prison site by staff.


Bespoke on-site training will be provided.
