About us

There are exciting opportunities to join the South & Vale Locality Transport Development Control Team to the posts of Transport Planner and Senior Transport Planner at Oxfordshire County Council, providing expert highways and transport advice into the planning process. The roles will shape the infrastructure required to support the planned growth within Oxfordshire. Current growth forecasts indicate provision for over 85,000 new jobs and 100,000 new homes in the county by 2031. We need to ensure that the county’s transport systems are fit to support this economic and population growth.

About the roles

Working alongside Transport Strategy colleagues, you will provide pre-application advice, input into master planning, and assess the transport impact of minor and major development proposals (Transport Planner) and strategic and major development proposals (Senior Transport Planner). You will provide Highway Authority responses to planning consultations and use your excellent negotiation skills to secure appropriate mitigation.

About you

Enthusiastic and customer focused, you will be able to work flexibly and prioritise effectively.  Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, you will need to have effective coordination skills and high level of analytical skills to interpret and communicate complex written and statistical information. 


You will need to have the willingness and ability to work outside of normal office hours if required.  You will also need to be able to travel independently and effectively to a variety of locations, including rural areas.

Transport Planner
Grade 10 - Salary Range: £30,507 - £32,878 per annum
•           Experience working within the specified area of expertise
•           A professional qualification Level 4 (e.g. HNC) (or similar qualification in the relevant discipline) or experience in the relevant specialist field of works
•           Previous experience of working at a similar level in Local Government 

Senior Transport Planner
Grade 12 - Salary Range: £37,849 - £40,760 per annum
•           Significant experience working within the specified area of expertise
•           A professional qualification Level 6 (or similar qualification in the relevant discipline) or substantial experience in the relevant specialist field of works
