Salary range: £63,144 - £66,265 per annum

Work location: Oxford (+ ability to work from home)

Hours per week: 37 - we are open to discussions about flexible working

Contract type: Fixed Term until 31 March 2023

The post holder will lead the Oxfordshire Plan 2050 team which sits within the Oxfordshire Growth Deal team and in partnership with Oxfordshire Councils, Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP), Government representatives and key stakeholders within a structured and transparent framework.

About the role


Join us in this specialist lead role and you'll take full responsibility in leading the development of Oxfordshire’s Joint Statutory Spatial Plan (the Oxfordshire Plan 2050).


The post holder will be expected to understand and work with Local Planning Authorities to shape partners efforts to deliver the Oxfordshire Plan for submission and then to take the plan through Examination for adoption. This will involve the post holder working across all partners (Local Planning Authorities, the County Council, and OxLEP) involved in the effort to create innovative and effective solutions to secure delivery of the Oxfordshire Plan within the timetable agreed between the Partnership and Government.


You will play a key role in providing professional leadership for the team preparing the Oxfordshire Plan and act as the key professional advisor to the Oxfordshire Growth Board on the Oxfordshire Plan and associated planning matters.


Coaching, motivating and inspiring your team, you'll help develop them professionally to establish and develop effective working relationships with partners, especially local authorities and other stakeholders, including influencing the pace and take up of a continuous improvement culture.


This is a highly networked role, so you'll be expected to build, promote and maintain effective communication with all relevant stakeholders - including council members, parish councils, the public, district councils and government representatives.



About you


We are looking for a very impressive planner with extensive knowledge of best practice in strategic planning, statutory processes and policy development. A track record in developing and delivering strategic spatial plans and strategies in a partnership context, is vital. As is a background of leading and evaluating large scale community and stakeholder engagement and public consultation programmes across a range of channels involving multiple partners and stakeholders.


Ideally the successful application will have a professional planning qualification, membership of a relevant professional body and with substantial experience in a senior planning role. On a personal level, you'll be team-spirited, articulate, well organised and decisive.
