Job Purpose:

To undertake a full range of registration duties including registering births, stillbirths, deaths, civil partnerships and marriages, taking notices of marriage and civil partnerships, conducting marriage and civil partnership ceremonies and other celebratory ceremonies as may be required, together with associated duties. 


This post holder is responsible for ensuring that all relevant County policies and procedures are adhered to and concerns are raised in accordance with these policies

Role Responsibilities:

  • Registering births, stillbirths, deaths and marriages and associated duties, accurate and efficient processing of certificate applications
  • Registering marriages and civil partnerships at registration offices, approved premises and registered buildings where a registrar is required and indexing marriage registers.
  • Being financially accountable for monies taken and accurate completion of electronic cashbook.
  • Supporting the Superintendent Registrar in the full range of her duties including arranging and conducting civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies, ensuring that the necessary preliminaries have been completed before a marriage or civil partnership can take place.  Undertaking all duties connected with civil partnerships and other civil ceremonies.
  • To maintain a working knowledge of the regulations of the GRO registration Handbook, and OCC policies and procedures.
  • Delivering a high standard of customer service in dealing with correspondence, telephone enquires and callers as appropriate.  Being financially accountable in accordance with OCC and GRO procedures, including the collection of fees, cash handling and debit/credit card processing and banking arrangements.
  • Issuing returns and statistical information to central Government departments and other administrative duties as required.
  • Provide County wide cover for RBD DSR’s during periods of leave and sickness.
  • Working in Helpdesk carrying out full range of duties as required.

Educational achievements, Qualifications, Training and Knowledge:

  • Good General standard of Education
  • Microsoft Office – Word, Excel Outlook



  • Experiencing of public speaking, addressing or making formal presentations to a range of audiences
  • Administration experience


Job related aptitude and skills:

  • Possession of good customer service skills
  • Able to interpret / explain detailed rules and procedures
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Neat clear handwriting and concise, accurate written skills
  • Accurate and accountable record keeping
  • Ability to organise and, plan, prioritise and manage tasks and to work without close supervision
  • Tact, diplomacy, integrity, confidentiality and sensitivity to deal with people in stressful or emotive situations
  • Ability to use initiative

Educational achievements, Qualifications, Training and Knowledge:

  • 5 GCSE Grade A – C or equivalent (Inc Maths and English)
