Oxfordshire Registration Service is seeking to expand its pool of Ceremony Celebrants to work on a casual basis in Oxford city and south of the county, in order to cover peak periods of demand generally through the summer months.  You will need to drive and have access to a car to travel to venues. The days of work will be flexible depending on ceremonies booked so we are looking for people who are available and can give us advanced availability. Neat and legible handwriting is essential and you may be required to work at short notice.  Full training for the post will be given.

 

Job Purpose:

  • To attend weddings and civil partnerships and make an accurate legal registration of the wedding or civil partnership.
  • To deliver weddings, civil partnerships, naming and renewal of vows ceremonies.
  • This post holder is responsible for ensuring that all relevant County policies and procedures are adhered to and concerns are raised in accordance with these policies 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Registering marriages and civil partnerships at registration offices, approved premises and registered buildings where a registrar is required.
  • Conducting marriage and civil partnership ceremonies and other civil ceremonies as required, together with associated paperwork.
  • To maintain a working knowledge of the regulations of the GRO handbook and OCC policies and procedures.
  • Delivering a very high standard of customer service.
  • Being financially accountable in accordance with the Council and GRO procedures, including collection of fees, cash handling and debit/credit card processing and cashbook records.

Selection Criteria:

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Educational achievements, Qualifications, Training and Knowledge:

  • Good General standard of Education
  • Microsoft Office – Word, Excel Outlook

 

Experience:

  • Experience of public speaking, addressing or making formal presentations to a range of audiences
  • Administration experience

 

Job related aptitude and skills:

  • Availability to work during week and at weekends
  • Possession of excellent customer service skills
  • Able to interpret / explain detailed rules and procedures
  • Excellent oral communication skill
  • Neat clear handwriting and concise, accurate written skills
  • Accurate and accountable record keeping
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Tact, diplomacy, integrity, confidentiality and sensitivity to deal with people in stressful or emotive situations
  • Ability to use initiative

Special Requirements:

  • Available to work at short notice including weekends and Bank Holidays

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

Educational achievements, Qualifications, Training and Knowledge:

  • 5 GCSE Grade A – C or equivalent
