Workshop Mechanical Technician (LGV Mechanic) OCC16508

Salary range: £26,999 - £29,636 per annum

Work location: Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Kidlingdon

Hours per week: 37 - we are open to discussions about flexible working 

Contract type: Permanent

This is a great opportunity to join the Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, working at our busy HQ workshops in Kidlington.


About the Role


Your daily duties will include carrying out diagnostic investigations, inspections and repairs on service fleet and equipment. Working to standards as laid down by Vehicle Operators Standards Agency (VOSA) and Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA), it’s essential that you are a fully qualified, time served, LGV mechanic with the appropriate City & Guild certificates or equivalent.


Please note normal workshop hours are Monday – Thursday 7.30am to 4.30pm and on Friday 7.30 – 12.30pm.  As a requirement of the role, for 1 week in every 6, you must participate in 24hr stand-by duties as part of the duty rota.

About You


You’ll need to have a current, valid driving licence, a sound knowledge of modern vehicle systems including can-bus and the ability to operate power tools.  The ability to perform fabrication work, knowledge of the HSAWA 1974 and an LGV driving licence class C is desirable, as is previous experience of working in a commercial vehicle garage.


Along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you’ll have a flexible approach, the ability to follow instructions and work unsupervised and the ability to work well as part of a team.
