Hours per week: 37 - we are open to discussions about flexible working 

Contract type: Temporary for 12 months

Adopt Thames Valley is a Regional Adoption Agency, and the participating local authorities are Oxfordshire, Swindon, Reading, West Berkshire, Wokingham, Bracknell, and Windsor & Maidenhead.  

 

This is an exciting time to work in the adoption service, as we develop initiatives to place more children with adoptive families. We are looking for an applicant who has experience and/or a genuine interest in this area of work.

About the role

 

We are looking to recruit a social worker to cover maternity leave. This will be a 12 month contract, however there may be the possibility to extend this contract within the team. We are hoping to recruit to a full time post, however we are happy to consider part-time workers.

 

This Social Worker vacancy is based with the Oxford/Swindon team, but the post holder will also be supported to work from home through Oxfordshire’s agile working programme.

 

The work will mainly involve recruiting, training, assessing and supporting prospective adoptive parents up until their child is formally adopted. It may also involve some family finding for children in Swindon and Oxford.

 

Face to face visits to prospective adopters and to children in their placements will be necessary and this can include travel outside of the local area.  

 

 

About you

 

We are ideally seeking a social worker with three years post-qualifying experience in relevant work settings, such as within children’s Services or Family Placement, and who has excellent assessment, analytical and report writing skills. The applicant will need to demonstrate that they possess good verbal presentation skills and be willing to facilitate the learning and development of prospective adopters.
