Hampshire County Council is looking for experienced Senior Technical Consultants to support an exciting period of transformation, which is being facilitated by a shift towards cloud-based services to enable a more mobile and flexible workforce.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivery and maintaining a wide range of technical solutions based on some of the latest enterprise class platforms. These technologies include Hyperconverged Infrastructure, Windows Server 2016, Office 365 product suite, Azure services and Intune, Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager, Citrix, and End User Devices running Windows 10.

 

We don’t expect you to be proficient in all the areas that we cover but if you are a quick learner and have strong technical experience, then we would love to hear from you.

 

You will be a self-motivated individual with ability to deliver excellence and able to work effectively with others. You may be a subject matter expert in one of the technologies that we use, or you may be a generalist with experience across a number of areas. Either way, you will be working with cutting edge technologies to deliver transformational projects or supporting and maintaining existing services.

Job Purpose:

Supporting the business priorities of Hampshire County Council, the successful applicant will be focused on delivering and improving the vital services that the Authority provides to the citizens of Hampshire and its visitors within agreed service levels, whilst ensuring Hampshire County Council continually complies with Central and Local Government requirements surrounding electronic data and systems security. 

 

Utilising a wide array of industry-standard technologies from Microsoft, Citrix and VMware; activities will include providing technical resource to projects enabling the initiatives and business of the broader County Council and its Partners, alongside support and maintenance of existing services, ensuring security compliance.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Technical Lead in the design, execution and delivery for operational maintenance of existing services, together with implementation of projects supporting Hampshire County Council and partners.
  • Lead on highly complex incidents and problems with critical infrastructure services.  Assist with technical leadership of major incidents and crises.
  • Identify technical tasks and lead cross-team technical resources to meet delivery deadlines.
  • Maintain and apply a deep technical knowledge of relevant technologies and platforms, related protocols and delivery principles.  Keeping abreast of technology changes.
  • Ownership and resolution of third level support calls relating to critical infrastructure services.  Assist with the resolution of major incidents.
  • Produce and review relevant technical documentation for infrastructure platforms following new service delivery, updates, incidents and problems.
  • Identify and escalate when risks and issues arise.
  • Provide documented technical risks and service development recommendations for existing and new services through business as usual and project tasks.
  • Contribute to the Infrastructure team’s vision, driving efficiencies and ensuring best value from existing platforms. 
  • Provide consultancy and advice on IT strategies and solutions, drawing on a wide range of experience in the context of the corporate IT strategy.
  • Confidently and effectively present technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Consider and recommend options when dealing with issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with PSN, ISO27001 and PCI policies for the delivery of all IT platforms.
  • Use initiative when dealing with ambiguity.
  • Apply strategic solutions during design and project delivery to ensure that key IT platforms are available 24/7/365.
  • Effective productivity and the ability to unblock barriers to progress tasks.
  • Act as a trusted adviser to managers and mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Be a role model across the IT department for technology awareness, excellent customer service, inspiring new ways of working and professionalism. 

Role Requirements:

Essential

  • A degree and/or; formal industry recognised qualifications and/or; significant recent and relevant experience of working in a complex IT environment.
  • Profficient in the use of Microsoft Windows operating systems and their operation in a large scale environment. 
  • Significant experience of successful delivery in an infrastructure project deliver, business as usual or third/fourth level support environment
  • Significant experience in either a broad range of the technologies listed within the desirable section or an in-depth knowledge of one or more of the technologies.
  • Vendor and Technical Qualifications, or appropriate work based experience
  • An understanding of the ITIL framework
  • Robust troubleshooting and strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability required
  • Technical aptitude, written and oral communications skills, and the ability to deal effectively with people at all levels (technical and non-technical audiences) and in different situations
  • Ability to develop clear, concise documentation
  • Proven ability to operate in extreme high pressure situations, successfully handle multiple competing priorities and possess a high level of discipline, flexibility and professionalism.
