Hampshire Achieves

Hampshire Achieves is the name given to our single curriculum area within the Skills & Participation Service. Skills & Participation is part of our Ofsted Grade 1 Children’s Services at Hampshire County Council. We provide a range of directly delivered and sub-contracted learning programmes, including Apprenticeships, Traineeships, Supported Internships and Adult & Community Learning programmes, at different venues across the county.

Our Service also includes the delivery of a full education and enrichment programme to young people in specialist and secure settings, these are; Place to Learn, Bluebird House, Austen House, Swanwick Lodge and Leigh House.

We are looking to appoint a Learning Coach to support our learners in Bluebird House and Austen House Hospital Education Unit. This is an exciting opportunity to join our specialist team and to have a major impact on the lives of some of most vulnerable and ill young people in Hampshire.

Austen House, a low secure, forensic hospital that provides support for children and young people with specialist mental health needs. Admitted are young people, both male and female, aged 12-18 years. Young people using the service have complex mental health problems which means they may pose a risk to themselves.

Young people admitted to Austen House are detained under the Mental Health Act and may be subject to Ministry of Justice restrictions.

Bluebird House is a purpose built, medium secure in-patient unit that specialises in the treatment of emerging personality disorders in young people, male and female, aged between 12 18 years. It is based on the site of the trust headquarters at Tatchbury Mount.

Bluebird House admits young people who require nursing within a secure environment. Each young person had an individualised
care plan, which includes full use of the onsite facilities, and accessing services within the local community, based on the risk assessment of the young person, and where they were not restricted by the Home Office.

Young people admitted to Bluebird House are detained under the Mental Health Act and may be subject to Ministry of Justice restrictions.

We have our own specialist Education Units at Austen House and Bluebird House as well as a dedicated team of Tutors and Learning Coaches who work closely with Health professionals to ensure the young people have continuity and success in their education.
