HC3S is Hampshire County Council’s in house catering service. We are looking for a Front of house supervisor for a busy café and beautifully refurbished chapel in Netley.

Working in a fast paced busy kitchen, supporting the Chef Manager to provide an effective catering service to customers, you'll prepare and cook a wide range of menu items. As well as deputising for the Chef Manager when required, you’ll assist with catering for functions. You may also be required to setup/clear the cafe on a daily basis and carry out cleaning duties. Experience of working in a relevant catering environment is essential and you must be physically able to lift tables and chairs and kitchen equipment.

 

Successful candidates should have some previous catering and events experience, as well as a sound knowledge of Food Safety and Health and Safety Legal Requirements. Previous supervisory experience is desirable however full in house training will be given, and external training courses and development offered. We pride ourselves on delivering the best possible experience to all of our customers, therefore excellent customer service skills are required.

Job Purpose:

To prepare cook and serve food for on site and hospitality catering as directed by Chef Manager. Help with general cleaning duties, preparation and clearing eating areas, maintaining vending services. Assisting in collation of monies ready for banking, (operating the cashless card system). Deputising for Chef Manager if required.

Role Responsibilities:

Food preparation and cooking of meals:  Help prepare required food as directed by Chef Manager for customers. Ensure portion control and recipes are followed using the appropriate manuals.

 

Setting up and clearing away all eating areas. Kitchen cleaning and washing up:  Take part in the setting up of tables, chairs, bins, clear furniture and  sweep at end of service. Take part in washing up of eating utensils and equipment. Follow daily/weekly cleaning rotas.

 

Serving and customer liaison:  Serve food following portion control guidelines. Assist in building and maintaining customer feedback and effective communication with customers and clients.

 

Functions:  Assist in the preparation and promotion of function catering for internal/external hospitality during evenings/weekends/school holidays adhoc.

 

Administration and financial, stock control, cashless card and vending:   Assist in completing accurate financial information. Assist in ensuring efficient stock control of foods cleaning materials. Assist in completing daily reports for cashless systems, daily income and vending. Assist in collating monies ready for banking. All under the direction of the Chef Manager.

 

Effective use of resources and people management:  As part of the team, maintain teamwork and moral. Assist in the training of staff.

Role Requirements:

Essential knowledge skills and experience:

Experience of working in a relevant catering environment.

Ability to use a calculator and carry out simple calculations

Physically able to lift service and kitchen equipment

Excellent Customer Service Skills

 

Desirable knowledge skills and experience:

Supervisory experience

Frequent bending and lifting

Washing up. Industrial height low sinks, slip hazards.

Exposure to noise levels during cooking/service (e.g. Mechanical extraction). 

Exposure to heat through ovens/deep fat fryers/hot cupboards.

Exposure to chemicals with irritant classification.

Exposure to food products which may be irritants (tomatoes, potatoes, onions, garlic, fruits, lettuce)

Use of knives

Lone working early morning

Work can be at a fast pace

Temperature variants – kitchens can be hot in summer and cold in winter
