The role of General Assistant includes kitchen, domestic and laundry duties with some caring responsibilities such as assisting residents with their food and drink. You’ll have empathy and an understanding of the needs of older people as you’ll also interact with our residents and play a key role in providing the caring and homely environment we strive for.

Forest Court is a nursing home set in a beautiful woodland location on the edge of the New Forest providing 24 hour nursing care, including care for residents with dementia. The home is rated Good by CQC. For more information about our home please click here

Role Responsibilities:
  • Cleaning of residents’ bedrooms, communal areas, toilets, bathrooms, sluices and sundry offices.
  • To assist at meal times if required (i.e., serving or assisting residents, clearing/resetting tables, use of dishwasher etc.).
  • May be required to accompany residents, as an escort, to appointments (i.e., hospital, doctors, opticians etc.).
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with other professionals, relatives and residents.
  • Enhance and respect quality of life and wellbeing of short stay, day centre clients and sheltered housing tenants.
  • To problem solve and deal effectively with daily issues. Take responsibility of reporting any Health and safety issues or repairs. Responsibility for use of protective clothing.
  • Maintain and store equipment appropriately.
  • Such other duties reasonably falling within the purview of the post which are conducive to and contribute to an effective caring service.
Role Requirements:
  • Patience and good communication skills
  • Have a good understanding of the needs of older people
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work with staff in the unit as part of a team
  • Ability to take own initiative and work effectively and efficiently with the minimum of supervision
  • To take all reasonable care to promote a healthy working environment and safe working practices in accordance with the County Council’s Health and Safety Policy
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of equal opportunities
